DESCRIPTION:On December 5\, the Ottawa Board of Trade and Ottawa Business Journal will host its Local Breakfast Series event at the Shaw Centre.\n\n\n\nThe Deputy Governor will discuss Canadian and global economic developments and how they were taken into account in the December interest rate decision.\n\n  \n\nEconomic Progress Report speeches are scheduled to follow the interest rate decisions that are not accompanied by a Monetary Policy Report. Delivered by members of Governing Council\, these speeches discuss how economic conditions and risks to the inflation outlook have evolved and provide insight into the key issues figuring in the deliberations about the rate decision.\n\n\n\nSpeaker: Timothy Lane\, Deputy Governor of the Bank of Canada\n\n\n\nTimothy Lane became Deputy Governor of the Bank of Canada in 2009. In this capacity\, he shares responsibility for decisions with respect to monetary policy and financial stability. He also oversees the Bank's funds management and currency functions including the Bank's ongoing research and analysis of developments in financial technology\, crypto-assets and digital currencies.\n\n \n\nMr. Lane served for 20 years on the staff of the International Monetary Fund. During that period\, he contributed to the IMF's analysis of numerous countries and conducted research on a wide range of topics\, including monetary policy\, financial crises\, IMF reform and economic transition. In 2008\, he joined the Bank of Canada as an Advisor to the Governor\, a position he held until his current appointment.\n\n \n\nBorn in Ottawa\, Mr. Lane holds an honours BA from Carleton University and a PhD in economics from Western University. \n\n \n\n\n\n\nFrancais:\n\n\n\nTimothy Lane est devenu sous-gouverneur de la Banque du Canada en 2009.
