SUMMARY:Women in Renewable Energy (WiRE) Meetup
DESCRIPTION:WiRE and TCC Canada are proud to host Ottawa'a first WiRE networking meetup for women.\n\nJoin us as we welcome speaker Gwendolyn Barr\, Building Science Project Officer - Natural Resources Canada\n\n\n\nGwendolyn is a mechanical engineer with a deep passion for sustainability. Fresh out of university\, she jumped into the deep end\, joining a small wind start-up where she was the lead mechanical designer of a 50kW wind turbine. She is currently working for Natural Resources Canada\, where she is working to ensure that homes across Canada are energy efficient.\n\nHow many hours a day do you spend driving your car? And yet how many times a year does it get maintenance work done? Now imagine designing something which spins constantly\, and yet only gets serviced once a year.\n\nModern wind turbines are an important component of renewable energy\, but they face design challenges above and beyond conventional energy systems. Gwendolyn's talk will dive into the cutting edge of renewable research and development. She will discuss the unique challenges of building wind turbines from a mechanical design perspective. As well\, she will cover the issues facing the wind industry in regards to sustainability and energy storage.\n\n(No refunds are available).
