In Ottawa and Renfrew County, more than 24,000 people live with a diagnosis of dementia. This number is expected to double by 2030. Like all of us, people living with dementia have told us that they want to remain active participants in their communities for as long as possible. They want to feel understood and welcomed by the people where they conduct their daily activities – such as grocery shopping, going to the bank, getting a haircut, going to a coffee shop or restaurant.
We also know that many people living with a diagnosis of dementia and their caregivers alike, become isolated due to the stigma associated with this disease. Tasks that were once easily completed become more difficult, and the person with dementia must rely on others for help. This creates stress especially if the community is not sensitive to the needs of the person living with dementia, or their caregiver and family members .
Businesses like yours can help! And we’re here to help you.
